Winter Tournament | Wrap-Up

The 2015 Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex (MVSC) Adult and High School Indoor Soccer Tournament, was a huge success for MVSC.  The annual event hosted January 2-4, 2015 marked the 31st Annual Indoor Soccer Tournament at MVSC, which is the longest running indoor soccer tournament in the nation! MVSC worked very hard to improve the tournament from years past to enhance the competition, atmosphere, fun and overall enjoyment for all participants and fans that had the privilege of watching some of the highest quality soccer that Louisville has to offer. MVSC feels confident that the 2015 accomplished many of the goals that we set for this event, however we also realize there is always an opportunity for improvement and innovation; this that said, MVSC looks forward to continuing to work towards our goal for future events to make each annual Tournament as successful, if not more successful than previous events. The 2015 Tournament featured a few new additions which include: a new Division of competition (Men’s Over 40 Division), being a sanctioned tournament for the National Indoor Soccer Championship in Palatine, IL in March (2015) where we will be sending the winner of the Men’s Open division, Louis Villa.  Additionally, the 2015 Tournament featured appearances throughout the weekend from Louisville’s Newest Professional Soccer team: Louisville City FC (LCFC) with Head Coach James O’Connor in attendance throughout the event to scout talent, and make trophy presentations to each Division’s runner-ups and champions.  As is the case each year, this tournament featured teams from around the Region, including  teams from Louisville (KY), Elizabethtown (KY), Goshen (KY), Richmond (KY), Westerville (OH), Henryville (IN), Mason (OH), Columbus (OH), Indianapolis (IN), Fort Wayne (IN), New Albany (IN), Georgetown (IN), and Maize (KS).  The 2015 Tournament also included a High School (Varsity) Boys and Girls division of competition for the second straight year.

All in all, the 31st Annual MVSC Adult Tournament proved to be one of the best tournament weekends in recent history.  This year the Head Coach of Louisville City FC, James O’Connor was present at the tournament nearly the entire weekend not only scouting players, but also (as he has expressed), to enjoy the event, and he noted that he “had an amazing time watching all the talent that this tournament is known for”.  Coach O’Connor stayed through the Men’s Open Finals on Sunday to distribute both the Runner-up and the Championship trophies to the appropriate teams as well as taking a picture with each individual team that reached the finals in each Division, and these pictures are to be post on both MVSC’s website and LCFC’s website in the coming weeks.  As we do each year, we will continue to strive to make this tournament bigger and better next year, and MVSC cannot wait to enhance this tournament and continue to take it to the next level with the goal of making this the best adult indoor soccer tournament in the region.  Moving forward we will be adding more new and innovative ideas that will enrich the experience and competition of this annual event.

We encourage the teams that registered for the 2015 Tournament to go ahead and register your team for the 2016 Tournament, to be hosted January 8-10, 2016, to secure your spot and receive your desired schedule by visiting the MVSC website (www.mockingbirdsoccer.net) . Due to the amount of positive feedback that was received from the 2015 tournament, we foresee next year’s tournament as an even bigger success; therefore we are encouraging early registration in order to ensure a spot in what we hope to be the best Annual Tournament to date.

We welcome and encourage any/all feedback from participants in the 31st Annual (2015) MVSC Adult Tournament. While we are confident that the 2015 Tournament was an overwhelming success, we also realize that, in order to make this event even better in the future, we need the positive and negative feedback of those participants, fans and observers from the 2015 Tournament to continue to improve.  We are already planning for the 32nd Annual (2016) Adult Winter Tournament, and look forward to continue implementing ideas for next year’s event with the help of previous participants and attendees, so we can ensure the improvement and growth of this tournament to meet the expectations of those participating.

Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex would like to give a huge thank you to Budweiser for sponsoring this event as they have done for the past 24 years. We would also like to give a massive thank you to Louisville City FC (LCFC) and Head Coach James O’Connor for taking the time to have such a grand presence at the 31st Annual (2015) MVSC Winter Adult Tournament; we look forward to welcoming LCFC back next year for the 2016 Tournament, and continuing to build a strong relationship between MVSC and LCFC.  Finally, we would like to thank everyone who helped make the 31st Annual (2015) MVSC Adult Winter Tournament such a success, especially MVSC General Manager Pete Macon, MVSC Internist Steven Smith, all MVSC employees and all participants; without them this would not have been as successful as it was.
