OBJECTIVES AND FOCUS OF SELECT PROGRAM PER AGE GROUP

U9 Select: Youth Academy

Focus is on developing a fun environment for players to learn, develop, and be more creative on the ball. These players will attend tryouts and those players demonstrating a desire to learn and listen will be selected and trained within the pool of Academy players.

U9 Players will participate in 5 Play Dates throughout the fall and another 5 in the spring with the focus on development and improving individual skills. Players are expected to show a commitment to attending training sessions, Play Dates, and are required to attend winter training.

***For players U10 and below it is encouraged to engage in other activities and play multiple sports.  Scheduling conflicts will arise, but it is expected that soccer is the main priority.***

 U10/U12 Select: Juniors

Focus is still on development and begins to look at the larger picture of being a team and understanding the concept of shape and decision-making. There is still a premium placed on players being creative and being comfortable on the ball.

U11/U12 Players will participate in the KSSL league and attend 2 Tournaments in the fall season and 3 in the spring season. The U10 Age Group will participate in the KSSL League and attend both the MVSC tournaments and also attend multiple round-robin tournaments. In an effort to develop a larger group of players, the two teams in the age group will train together at least two times a month. These players will also be required to attend winter training organized by MVSC. Our goal is to field at least 2 teams in each age group within the Juniors division.

***For players U12 and below it is encouraged to engage in other activities and play multiple sports.  Scheduling conflicts will arise, but it is expected that soccer is the main priority.***

U13-U14 Select: Classic

The classic division offers players a chance to continue to play and improve without attending as many tournaments and no winter training offered by MVSC. The player and parent expectation should be that their children have the chance to improve against appropriate competition. Teams will train 2 times per week, participate in the KSSL, and will attend 2 tournaments in the fall season and 3 tournaments in the spring season.

U13-U14 Select: Premier

The premier division offers elite players a chance to play against top level competition. These teams will attend 3 tournaments in the fall season and 3 in the spring season. They will also be required to attend winter training organized by MVSC. Soccer should be the main priority for these players and in the event of any conflict soccer takes precedence (with the exception of education and religion). Training will be conducted 2-3 times a week throughout the year, and teams will play in either the KSSL or MRL.

***For players U14 and below it is encouraged to engage in other activities and play multiple sports.  Scheduling conflicts will arise, but it is expected that soccer is the main priority.***

U15-U18 Select: Classic

The high school-aged classic division offers players a chance to continue to play and improve following their high school season with a late fall season focused on attending 1-2 low-medium profile tournaments and a full spring season with 3 tournaments. There will be no winter training offered for these players by MVSC. These teams will compete within the KSSL during the spring season. The player and parent expectation should be to compete against appropriate competition within and to continue to learn the game.

U15-U18 Select: Premier

The high school-aged premier division offers elite players a chance to play against top level competition following their high school season. These teams will participate in a late fall season focused on 2-3 high profile showcases and a full spring season with 3 tournaments. There will be winter training required for each of these teams during the months of January and February. Soccer should be the main priority for these players and in the event of any conflict soccer takes precedence (with the exception of education and religion). Training will be conducted 3 times a week throughout the year, and these teams will compete within the KSSL or MRL during the spring.
